The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP)

Mission Statement

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) leads women and men to join together as Vincentians and grow spiritually by offering person to person service to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of its’ founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam and patron, St. Vincent de Paul.  Vincentians are united in an international society of charity by their spirit of poverty, humility and sharing which is nourished by prayer and reflection, mutually supportive gatherings and the meeting of two aims—do a great deal of spiritual good to its’ members though the exercise of charity and to do a little spiritual and temporal good to poor families in the name of Jesus Christ.  In attending to the needy and suffering,  Vincentians are ministering to Jesus Christ himself.

St. Joseph Pinole SVdP Conference

The St. Joseph Pinole SVdP Conference is a ministry within our church and one of several conferences located in the west county of Contra Costa.   The Vincentians could not continue to conduct home visits to our needy clients and provide them with food vouchers to purchase groceries without the ongoing generosity of the parishioners during the 5th Sunday of the month second collection.  We have given  back to school vouchers to the school age children of our clients during the month of August annually.  With the parishioners help, we have distributed yearly Christmas gifts and food vouchers to the families in our client base who reside within our parish boundaries.  Our clients are very appreciative of all the assistance they have received from the SVDP ministry.

Winter News

The SVDP ministry would like to thank all the parishioners who donated presents, gift cards, and food certificates towards the annual Christmas giving tree program.  We distributed over 612 gifts to 60 families comprised of 147 adults and 151 children, 24 elderly/homebound individuals, and our 3 parish sisters on December 21, 2015.  We deeply appreciate the ongoing generosity of our parishioners.  The Parish Hall was filled with the beautifully decorated presents as depicted in the photos with our current president, Steve Salcido, and past president, Mary McKillop, amid the gift piles.

We would like to acknowledge and thank the YLI sisters for adopting a SVDP family at Thanksgiving. They provided the family with a turkey feast for dinner, additional food items and a generous gift card.  The YLI sisters also adopted an additional SVDP family at Christmas.  They shopped, wrapped and delivered the presents along with the food certificates to the needy family.  Special thanks goes to Sandy Toynbee, Nancy Snodgrass and Linda Sanchez for coordinating the annual YLI adopt a SVDP family during the holiday season.

Lastly, we would to thank the Chatelaine organization for also adopting a SVDP family at Thanksgiving.  They have annually provided a family with a Thanksgiving dinner.  This year, they gave the family a generous gift card for them to purchase food items of their choice.
